Join the Team as DC Legacy Project Director

Join one of DC’s most fierce and effective community organizing groups!

Empower DC is seeking experienced candidates for the newly created DC Legacy Project Director position to help our dynamic, grassroots organization build political power with DC residents to advance racial, economic and environmental justice.

The organization was founded in 2003 and since that time has engaged a multi-generational and multi-ethnic membership base in neighborhood-specific and citywide campaigns addressing issues of affordable housing, childcare, education, public land, community development and environmental justice. Empower DC is known for taking on tough issues and engaging in long-term battles in support of some of the lowest income communities in DC.  At the center of our organizing model are directly impacted grassroots leaders who influence the goals and strategies we employ in our efforts.

Function:

The DC Legacy Project Director will advance Empower DC’s mission by leading efforts of the DC Legacy Project, an initiative created by Empower DC in 2021 that is dedicated to preserving and uplifting the history of Black-led struggle for land, housing and justice in DC. In particular, the DC Legacy Project Director will dedicate their time to realizing the restoration of the Barry Farm historic landmark as a site of public commemoration, education and activation. The DCLP Director will work alongside the DCLP Steering Committee and Advisory Committee to engage experts, decision makers and community members in planning and implementation of activities to secure the future of the Barry Farm landmark. This will include advocating for funding in the DC budget to support the renovation of the site, carrying out public activities to uplift the project’s goals, and securing funding to support the ongoing work of the DC Legacy Project.
